Fantasie, arranged for Viola and Piano

Schubert's Fantasy in C major is one of his great late works and his last composition for piano and violin, highly demanding for both instruments. I am delighted to be able to make this wonderful work available to violists with this edition.
In the third movement, Schubert quotes his song «Sei mir gegrüsst» (D 741, 1821-22).
This edition follows the composer's autograph and current Urtext editions. Several notes in the viola part had to be adjusted in arpeggios for better play-ability. Due to the register change, I eliminated measure 474 and added double stops in measures 516-524, 554-561, and 570-578. I placed measures 380-385 in a different register in the repeat. The octaves in the violin part are indicated by angles. In the piano part, I placed the upper system one octave higher in measures 500-507, 516-524 (1st quarter), 553 (from 2nd quarter)-561, and 570-578 (1st quarter). Dotted slurs in the piano part refer to parallel passages; in the viola part, they are to be seen as suggestions for playing technique.
In his compositions, Schubert differentiated between decrescendo and diminuendo, the latter to be understood as a kind of calando; in this work, he uses it only twice: in measures 177 and 662.
